Thank you for your charitable analysis of my intelligence.

From my webserver logs, I notice that you browsed my blog using a Mac, and that you found my blog through Macsurfer's Headline News, a site that evidently aggregates blog entries that contain the terms "Apple", "Macintosh" or "OS X". My brand-new blog is so obscure that there is hardly any other way you could have arrived at it. Do you really spend your time browsing every insignificant little corner of the web that mentions Macs, and yelling "stupid" at whoever slights their local Apple dealership?

Please note that the Darwin Awards honor those people who improve the overall human gene pool by removing themselves from it. Even if you were right about my supposed stupidity, this would be unlikely to result in my death (or even the loss of my nose). Thus you are probably misunderstanding the meaning of the Darwin Awards.

Please note also that my "generalization" was about the Icelandic Apple dealership, not about the Macintosh community or Macs in general (which I rather like, of late). I'll submit that, living in Seattle, you are hardly qualified to judge whether statements about my local dealership are warranted. Having heard the story from my cousin (a world-renowned mathematician, an ardent Mac user for many years, and a rather smart person), I think I am better qualified. Iceland is small: if I were to try out a Mac, I would necessarily be a customer of this dealership, and my cousin's experience reflects poorly on their treatment of customers. He was clearly grossly overcharged, and maybe he could obtain a refund by jumping through hoops ... but if you find that to be an acceptable customer experience, then I am happy to shun the dealerships you defend.

"You have every right to be" a Mac zealot. But blindly defending a little shop in Iceland that you don't even know, by casting name-calling aspersions on the intelligence of people whom you also don't know ... isn't that a few steps beyond pointless?

Your cousin should request a refund. The people he was dealing with may have made an honest mistake, either through ignorance, or miscommunication. If they deliberately charged him for something that was already on his computer, then he is entitled to the refund on the software, and should just be charged for labour, not materials. As for you, your generalization is unwarranted, and you are cutting your nose off to spite your face. You have every right to be stupid, but brodcasting it all over the friggin' Internet is just asking for a Darwin Award nomination.
